If you are CFL fan this post might interest you. Halifax has been trying to get it's own CFL team for years. I remember when I was in Toronto at the 10th Grey Cup there was talk then, in fact the Atlantic Schooners (as they are called) had a room set up where you could go experience maritime hospitality and dream of the future where there would be 10 CFL teams in Canada.
There have been posts on Facebook, Instagram show a mock up of what they imaging the stadium will look like. The has been lots of positive feedback but tons of negative as well. If you are not living here in the Maritimes (I live outside Halifax) you may not understand all the issues faced by locals. The biggest issue seems to be who is paying for it?
Most people feel this is an expanse that we don't need. But I personally think we do need it. The Maritimes needs to start competing with the rest of the country for venues that WILL draw people from the rest of the country to our shores where they will spend money.
As i indicated above, when I was at the 100th Grey Cup in Toronto, I had the opportunity to speak with hardened CFL fans and they will go to great lengths to get to CFL games across the country. Look at Saskatchewan, the Roughriders is the only sport on that province and it is the most popular team in the CFL (based on our sales #s).
I think a team in Nova Scotia will be well received and will be very profitable over time. The only issue I can see with this is if they "cheap out" on the stadium. If they go with an open stadium like the drawing seems to indicate, then yes we will have issues. Cancelled games due to weather will be a big problem. Lets do this right! Yes the upfront costs will be substantially higher in the beginning but over the long run. Lets build a Closed stadium, something that we can use all year.
A rendering of a proposed stadium for the Shannon Park area of Dartmouth, N.S., was presented by Schooners Sports & Entertainment founding partner Anthony LeBlanc on March 31, 2019. (CFL.ca)
It would bring other sports here as well as allow us to compete with Moncton and attract music venues here. Just my 2 cents worth. I would love to hear what you think of this. Comment below and let me know if you think I am right or have another idea that I didn't think of........
